Pastor’s Wife Book

The Pastor’s Wife Book

Books for pastors wives

Searching for “The Pastor’s Wife Book”?

Actually, there is no one book I really think tells it all for pastors’ wives.

I guess I was attempting to be clever in this post.

Still, wouldn’t it be nice if we had a manual to tell us pastors’ wives exactly what is expected of us?

It could be something like that Secret Book of Presidents the conspiracy theorist talk about. I want credit for naming it The Pastor’s Wife Book!

Anyhoo, I wish we had one.

But, we don’t. I still have fun with the idea thought! I’ve jokingly created a job description, pondered and mused about my role, but truthfully, there is no one, singular manual just for us. I don’t know. Maybe it’s a good thing there isn’t one. We’re all so different. No mold would likely work for us.

Books for pastors’ wives (each could be called The Pastor’s Wife Book)

There may not be the Pastor’s Wife Book, but I’ve found a few that I’d like to share with you. Each of them are from Christian retailer Christian Books.Com. They are the saved people’s version of what Amazon used to be.

I learned about them through a ministry wife in Overland Park, Kansas named Marjorie Truesdale. She told me if her money was going to support a company, it would be one that shared her values. I was so impress I became and affiliate.

I hope you’ll check out a few resources.  Let me know if you do and which I should read myself!

Letters to Pastors’ Wives: When Seminary Ends and Ministry Begins

The Pastor’s Wife: Strengthened by Grace for a Life of Love
By Gloria Furman / Crossway

Leading and Loving It: Encouragement for Pastors’ Wives and Women in Leadership
By Lori Wilhite & Brandi Wilson / FaithWords

Being a woman in ministry, whether you are partnering with your husband in his calling or serving in your own leadership role, is challenging. While serving as mentors, counselors, advisors, and even cheerleaders, women carry numerous responsibilities. Lori Wilhite and Brandi Wilson know about this first-hand as the wives of two well-known pastors in America.

Everyone has an image in their mind of what they think a pastor’s wife should be. The trouble with this picture is that it has never been and never will be accurate. Ministry wives and female ministry leaders face the same real-life struggles as their church members, but have the added stress of sharing in everyone’s burdens as well. They are held to impossible standards by those they serve, and the more this ideal of women in leadership is expected, the more we turn up the intensity in the pressure cooker that is life in ministry.

While no one books does it completely for me, this one comes very close. The author sent a copy for me to as a gift and I have fallen in love with it. I’ve been promoting it like a mad woman. It’s that good. Check out my video profiling it below!

  1. Thanks for including Whole in your list! It’s really for anyone who ever felt like they were called by God to a role they didn’t fit – including pastor’s wife, mother and all those other roles we feel like a square peg in a round hole.

Tell me whatcha think...
