Hey Sis! Let’s talk about something we can all relate to at some point in our lives: breaking the limitation off your thinking so you can do amazing things for the Lord.
Let’s talk. Not surface talk—but real, honest, “I’ve got mascara stains on my pillow and dreams in my heart” talk.
Because here’s what I know: if you’re a woman in ministry married to a senior pastor, breaking the limitation can feel like a far-off goal wrapped in invisible tape.
You love your husband. You serve faithfully. But somewhere in your heart, you may have wondered…
- “Am I allowed to do more?”
- “What if they don’t understand my gifts?”
- “How do I break through expectations without breaking relationships?”
You’re not alone.
Let’s walk through what breaking limitations looks like—spiritually, emotionally, and practically.
Example #1: The Gifted Wife Who Stays Silent
Marcia had a master’s in theology, a calling to teach, and a prayer life that could shake the heavens. But every time she stood up to speak at women’s ministry, someone pulled her aside afterward with, “Be careful not to outshine Pastor.”
It wore her down. She questioned herself. And eventually, she quietly backed away from public leadership.
But the call of God doesn’t sit quietly for long.
During a retreat, she felt the Holy Spirit whisper,
“You were never meant to be muted. You were meant to be led by Me.”
Marcia began mentoring women outside her church walls. She began offering Bible study to women who didn’t even attend church at all. And guess what happened?
It bloomed!
The fruit didn’t come from pleasing people—it came from breaking the limitation others had put on her.
My husband is not one to have me do much in our church. He is not oppressive, but he is a bit … well, let’s just say, I needed to do what I needed to do to be creative and to make my own mark on the Kingdom.
My way to do it is to blog and build relationships with women in my church one-on-one. I even have a real-life women’s ministry outside my church and not affiliated with it at all.
I praise God that He can use me in ways that don’t get in the way of my husband’s ministry.
In fact, my blogs (including WomensMinistryResources.com) combined reach almost 20,000 women a week.
One hundred percent true!
As for building relationships with women in the church, they find me. I love them so much.
Then, the best part is that as I am navigating this season of grief, they are holding me up in more ways than I can articulate.
What I am saying is pray about how you can use your gifts and your voice to be used in your role as a Pastor’s wife.
When People Put Limits on You
Sis, people will try to define your role, your place, your purpose—especially when you’re the senior pastor’s wife. They’ll tell you you’re too strong, too quiet, too visible, too invisible. It’s exhausting.
But can I remind you what Scripture says?
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” – Matthew 19:26
That includes redefining how others see you—and more importantly, how you see yourself.
God isn’t bound by church culture, committee expectations, or the status quo. He’s in the business of breaking the limitation—and inviting us into that freedom.
Pastor’s Wife Example 2: The Woman Who Didn’t “Fit the Mold”
Angela didn’t wear church hats.
She wasn’t a fan of leading the choir.
Her idea of ministry looked more like organizing single mom meetups and helping women start businesses. But she kept hearing, “That’s not really women’s ministry.”
Still, God kept nudging her.
One Sunday, a single mom visited the church and Angela just knew this was her moment. She sat next to her, encouraged her, prayed with her. That woman joined her mentoring group and found a whole new faith family.
Angela didn’t need a pulpit—she needed permission.
And when she stopped waiting for it from people and received it from God, everything changed.
That’s what breaking the limitation does—it frees you to serve where God called, not just where others are comfortable.
Breaking Limitations Scriptures
- Isaiah 54:2 – “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back…”
→ God wants to expand your influence—even if others want to shrink it. - 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.”
→ Fear is a limitation. Power is your portion. - Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
→ Not some things. Not approved things. All things. - Galatians 1:10 – “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?”
→ People-pleasing is a limitation. Your only audience is God.
Signs You Might Be Living Inside a Limitation
- You second-guess what you’re called to do because you fear gossip.
- You downplay your dreams to protect other people’s comfort.
- You use language like “Maybe I’ll do that… someday.”
Sis, God’s promises are for today. His Spirit is at work now. Don’t wait for approval when you’ve already been appointed.
Example 3: Breaking the Limitation in Marriage
Now let’s go there: sometimes the limitation isn’t church people—it’s the dynamic with your husband.
You may love him. You may respect him. But maybe he’s used to you supporting silently, not leading boldly.
One woman told me, “I love my husband, but every time I share an idea, he changes the subject. It makes me feel invisible.”
Sis, that’s hard. But here’s what she did: she started praying for unity. Not just that he would support her, but that theywould walk in step together. And she invited him into her calling gently, without ultimatums.
Eventually, he noticed the fruit of her ministry and said, “You need to keep doing this.”
Sometimes breaking the limitation means prayerfully walking through discomfort until your partnership catches up to your purpose.
How to Start Breaking the Power of Limitation Today!
Here’s how you can begin:
- Name the limitation.
Is it fear? People’s opinions? Lack of clarity? Is it your husband? - Pray boldly.
Ask God to confirm your calling, strengthen your resolve, and protect your peace. - Take one courageous step.
Start the blog. Lead the group. Record the video. Say yes. - Talk with your husband.
Not defensively—but confidently. Share your heart. Invite his support. - Mentor another pastor’s wife.
We need each other to be brave.

Sister, You Are Not Alone
The role of a pastor’s wife can be deeply rewarding—but also deeply limiting if we let others write our script.
But that’s not your story.
You are called, capable, and covered by the God who breaks barriers and destroys yokes.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…” – Ephesians 3:20
He’s not just willing—He’s able. That includes helping you step out in boldness.
So stop waiting for someone to open the door. God already did. Walk through it.
You’ve got this.
And if no one else says it, let me:
I’m proud of you.
You’re not too much.
You’re not too little.
You’re His.
Now go… break the limitation, Sis!
Go now!
